Acorn Build Up: "Focus" (10/14)

Focus

Matthew 14:29-30 NIV
"Come," [Jesus] said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"

Peter "walked on water", then he started to sink. Why did he sink? Peter takes his focus off of Jesus and begins looking at the world around him. He gets distracted.

There are forces in the world bent on distracting us. When we lose our focus on Christ, then we sink, too! We sink into the ways of the world. We conform.

Romans 12:2 NIV
"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Jesus stills calls us to "come". God can do amazing things when we respond to His call, get out of the boat, and remain focused on Jesus.
